Depression is a serious problem in the world today. But it was not always a problem, back in the day not “everyone” was depressed. There is a trick that people used naturally that always seemed to work, it was around before TV and before prescription medication. This simple trick has worked for centuries:
“Sorrow itself can be eased by simply getting busy at something.” —L. Ron Hubbard from The Way to Happiness
If you’re feeling sad or depressed just get busy! The worst thing to do is sulk in your room and do nothing. Instead, go for a run in a park or sing your heart out. Wash your car or clean your house. Put your mind off of what’s bugging you, you’ll feel better.
Here is another way to get happier (which also costs nothing). It’s the easiest thing to do.
“Force yourself to smile and you’ll soon stop frowning.” —L. Ron Hubbard in The Joy of Creating
It works like magic, just force yourself to smile and soon enough you find things to laugh about. It can be pretty embarassing around other people, but try it out alone. Just smile for no reason and you can end up in laughter. This has worked for me at times when I really “wanted” to be mad. Sometimes I’ve felt like I shouldn’t force myself to smile because I’d rather be upset, but then I know that it’s just internal nonsense talking and force myself to smile anyway =D.
Even though this is a regular practice of Scientologists, it is a principle that can be applied by anybody.
Try it out, and see what happens.
